Knights unable to slow hot-shooting St. Catherine

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team could not slow the hot-shooting St. Catherine University Wildcats, falling 81-54.

Carleton (2-13, 1-8 MIAC) shot 40.0 percent on the game but was limited to 26.1 percent (6-for-23) from 3-point range. The Wildcats (8-8, 3-6 MIAC) knocked down 50.0 percent of their attempts and hit a season-high 11-of-28 shots from beyond the arc. St. Kate's utilized 13 offensive rebounds to score 17 second-chance points.

After the teams traded early buckets, Carleton seniors Nayeli Williams and Selma Vangstein hit back-to-back jumpers near the halfway mark of the first quarter to tie the game at 10-10. From there, St. Catherine embarked on an 8-0 run and led the remainder of the contest.

First-year guards Addy Huss and Audrey Whitney found their stride late and finished with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Huss hit 8-of-13 shots, grabbed six rebounds, and doled out four assists. Fellow rookie Liesl McCallum pinched three steals and blocked four shots.

Wildcats' senior Greta Schimnowski scored a season-high 23 points while going 5-for-10 from deep. Hattie Fox (13 points), Maddie Young (12), and Emme Golembiewski (10) joined her in double-digit scoring. Fox had five assists, Young added nine rebounds, and Golembiewski tacked on three steals and four helpers.
