WINONA, Minn. -- The Carleton College women's basketball team fell behind early and was unable to overcome the early deficit in the Knights' 75-39 loss at Saint Mary's University.
Carleton (2-11, 1-5 MIAC) shot 29.8 percent in the contest. The Knights tied their second-highest total of the season with 10 offensive rebounds but were able to turn those extra possessions into only five points.
The Cardinals' (6-6, 4-2 MIAC) ball movement proved effective as Saint Mary's registered 21 assists on its 31 made field goals. The hosts were also efficient from range, making 11-of-31 (35.5 percent) of their 3-point attempts.
A 9-0 start by the Cardinals set the tone on the way to a 24-4 lead after one quarter. Despite a substantially more efficient second and third quarter, where the visitors shot a combined 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) from the field, the Knights were not able to dig out of their early hole.
Addy Huss finished in double figures for the ninth time this season, tallying a team-best 14 points. She fell a rebound shy of a double-double, concluding the day with nine boards.
Nayeli Williams was the Knights' second-leading scorer with 10 points, reaching double figures for the third time in her collegiate career.
The Cardinals were led by 14-point efforts by Brianna Nusbaum, Kali Olson, and Rylie Sternquist. Olson also grabbed 10 rebounds, seven of them on the offensive end, to notch a her third double-double of the campaign.
