NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's soccer team surrendered a pair of transition goals and dropped a 2-0 result to visiting Bethel University.
Carleton (5-2-3, 1-2-0 MIAC) had scoring chances—the Knights outshot the Royals (6-4-0, 2-1-0 MIAC) by an 11-10 margin and took 12 of the contest's 14 corner kicks—but were unable to knock the ball past a Bethel defense that notched its second shutout of the week.
Owen Flanagan led the Knights with four shots.
The game's opening tally came in the 38th minute. Nathan Hunt collected a Carleton free kick and raced the other way, eventually playing a through ball that sprung Carter Sheard for a breakaway goal.
A Knights' turnover in the 51st minute allowed Jordan Oberholtzer to dribble into the box for a 10-yard shot inside the right post.
Bethel absorbed the Carleton attack over the final 39 minutes and earned a big three points in the conference standings.
This was the first time since Oct. 14, 2022 that the Carleton defense surrendered multiple goals in a contest.
