Knights come up short against No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus in finals of MIAC Playoffs

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team saw its season conclude with a 5-0 loss to No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus College in the finals of the MIAC Playoffs. This marked the 17th time in the last 20 seasons that the Knights and Gusties squared off in the championship match of the conference tournament.
 
This time, Carleton (15-6) fell behind in doubles and was never able to catch up.
 
Cooper Kline and Jack Rivkin came up short, 8-5, at the top of the lineup in a match against the No. 2-ranked tandem in the Central Region. Yuv Kataria and Baiyun Jing fell by an 8-3 tally at the second slot to the No. 6 pairing in the region. Aniketh Vipparla and Zach Leslie lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Gustavus (23-8) registered straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to close out the match.
 
When play was halted, Rivkin was up at No. 6 singles after taking the opening set, 6-4. Jasper Yang dropped the opening set, 6-2, but led 1-0 early in the second set at No. 4 singles. Kline sent the opening set at No. 3 singles to a tiebreaker, and Kataria trailed 6-2, 1-0 atop the lineup.
 
This was the final match in the collegiate careers for the three seniors on the Carleton roster: Kataria, Vipparla, and Kenton Young.
