BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College senior
Spencer Goetz was selected at the MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Dec. 9-15 in recognition of his efforts in helping the Knights pick up a pair of narrow road wins.
This is Goetz's second career conference weekly award. He is the third Knight—joining
Tobias Averill (Nov. 11-17) and
Sam Koelling (Nov. 25-Dec. 1)—in earning weekly defensive accolades this season.
Goetz averaged 4.5 steals and 6.5 rebounds in the two games and contributed 8.5 points and 4.0 assists per game at the offensive end of the floor.
He collected a career-best six steals as the Knights erased a nine-point, second-half deficit to win 63-60 at Macalester on Dec. 11. Goetz nearly shutout his primary defensive assignment during the second half. He added eight points, three rebounds, and three assists to his well-rounded stat sheet.
In another come-from-behind win (78-74) at Northwestern-St. Paul on Dec. 14, Goetz contributed nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. That afternoon, he held UNWSP's leading scorer Soren Anderson to a season-low five points (11 below his season average) on only five shot attempts.
The Knights (7-2) are off from competition until they travel to UW-Eau Claire on Monday, Dec. 30.
