Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Knights fall to Northwestern-St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Knights played stingy defense but a cold shooting performance doomed the Carleton College women's basketball team in a 56-42 setback at University of Northwestern-St. Paul. First-year Addy Huss paced the Knights with 14 points.

Carleton (1-3) shot 28.1 percent as a team, including 6-of-26 (23.1 percent) from long range. The Knights held the Eagles (2-3) to a 35 percent showing overall and 6-of-30 (20 percent) beyond the arc.

The Eagles started the game hot, shooting 54 percent in the first quarter including 4-of-8 from downtown as they raced out to a 21-8 lead after the opening stanza. Carleton made a defensive adjustment and limited Northwestern-St. Paul to 29.8 percent shooting overall (14-of-47) the rest of the way, including a frigid 2-of-22 showing (9.1 percent) from 3-point range.

The Knights started the second quarter with a 12-4 run and eventually trailed 27-20 at intermission.

It was a still five-point game at 35-30 after a Huss' jumper with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter, but Carleton was out-scored 21-12 over the balance of the contest.

Bella Thomas nearly notched her second consecutive double-double for Carleton, finishing the contest with 10 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Audrey Whitney chipped in nine points and two steals, while Liesl McCallum contributed seven boards and two blocks off the bench.

2023 UMAC Player of the Year Lexi Hagen led Northwestern-St. Paul with game highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. She also surpassed 1,000 points and 500 rebounds for her career. Jasmine Soldrol was the only other Eagle in double figures with 10 points.
