Knights fall to Bethel in season’s final road game

Arden Hills, Minn. - The Carleton College football team dropped a road contest to Bethel University by a score of 56-7. The Royals' offense was a force, putting up a combined 549 yards, including 127 rushing yards and 422 passing yards.

After being stopped on their opening drive, the Knights (3-5, 2-4 MIAC) recovered a Royals' muffed punt, but were unable to take advantage of the extra opportunity. The Royals (7-1, 5-1 MIAC) responded with a three play, 92-yard drive capped off by a 50-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Drews to Joey Kidder, giving the home team Royals a 7-0 advantage early.

The Royals went on to score 35 more unanswered points, leading 42-0 until the close of the third quarter when Jack Curtis found Nathan Streiff over the middle for five yards and a score. Bethel went on to score two more times before the end of the contest.

Knights' quarterback Curtis finished the afternoon 24-for-36, with 138 yards, and one touchdown. Tyler Dimond was the Knights leading receiver, snagging seven receptions for 47 yards. Streiff grabbed six receptions for 40 yards and a score.

The Royals currently lead the nation in rushing defense, and the Knights posted the second most rushing yards by an opponent this season. The most yards given up by the Royals' defense came in their loss to No. 3 Saint John's.

On defense for the Knights, Eli Allen led the way with 10 tackles, and Owen Detmer followed suit with eight of his own.
