DULUTH, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team concluded its weekend with a 9-0 victory over College of St. Scholastica. The match was moved indoors at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center due to windy conditions.
One day after knocking off UW-Superior, the Knights improved to 3-0 for the fall season (2-0 MIAC).
Junior
Jack Rivkin and newcomer
Akshay Garapati started the day with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, and rookies
Ezra Bernhard and
Aiden Patel followed with an 8-6 result at the third slot.
Baiyun Jing was involved in the first of his two thrilling matches on the day, teaming with
Zach Leslei for an 8-7 (7-3) victory at No. 2 doubles.
Atop the singles lineup, Jing's opening set against Jonas Ableeda was a back-and-forth affair that the Knights' top player eventually captured, 7-5. The second set was even closer, with Jing closing it out in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).
"Clutch performance by Baiyun at No. 1 singles today against a top regional opponent," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel. "He can sneak up on an opponent with the stealth a Tesla approaching an intersection."
Elsewhere is solo play, Patel and Garapati made quick work of their opponent at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. The former notched a 6-1, 6-1 triumph, while the latter added a 6-0, 6-1 win at the sixth slot.
Bernhard kept the rookie class perfect on the day with his 6-0, 6-4 result at No. 4 singles.
Jasper Yang, who prevailed in a very close match on Saturday, claimed the opening set at No. 2 singles on Sunday but a 6-2 margin, before holding off Eamon Gerrard-Stace 7-5 to secure the straight-sets victory. Rivkin prevailed by the same score at No. 5 singles.

Carleton will return to competition with the indoor season that begins on Jan. 26 with matches against Lawrence University and Saint Mary's University.
