NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The MIAC-leading Carleton College women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in the conference with a 4-0 win over Hamline University.
Today's win and other results around the MIAC have ensured that Carleton (12-1-3, 7-0-2 MIAC) will earn at least a top-four seed—and at least one home game—in the MIAC Playoffs. Carleton has now gone unbeaten over 31 MIAC regular season contests (24-0-7) and 24 regular season home games (21-0-3).
The Knights started quickly. In the ninth minute
Hadley Twichell flew down the right wing, beat two defenders, and played a ball into the box. The Pipers (5-6-5, 1-3-3 MIAC) were unable to clear the ball, and
Dylan Baker picked it up and fired in at the near post for her sixth goal of the year.
In the 29th minute, junior
Kathryn Kresse picked up the ball on the sideline, pushed towards the endline, and swung in a cross. The ball curled to
Lauren Caldwell, who caught it cleanly on the volley and placed it into the side netting.
Just two minutes into the second half, substitute
Loren Arzayus snagged an errant backpass, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted home into an empty net. Just five minutes later,
Claire Burbery fired a through ball for Arzayus, and the senior striker sliced into the box and struck again, scoring her second into the far corner.
Carleton put up 11 shots, nine on goal. The Knights held Hamline shotless, the first time they had done so since Oct. 19, 2019 against Gustavus Adolphus. Carleton also took nine corners to the Pipers' one. This was Carleton's seventh clean sheet in MIAC play, the most in the conference.
Arzayus' brace was the first multi-goal game of her career. Kresse's assist moved her into a tie for third-most assists in Carleton history (see chart below).
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton crosses the Mississippi River to take on the regionally-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a nonconference meeting on Sunday, Oct. 20. The contest is set to kick off at 4:00 P.M.
