WINONA, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team began the indoor portion of the schedule with a 9-0 triumph at Saint Mary's University.
To say the Knights (5-0, 4-0 MIAC) were well-rested would be an understatement for the ages. Carleton returned to action after a 16-week respite from competition, having last faced an opponent on Oct. 8. Meanwhile, Saint Mary's (1-1, 0-1 MIAC) was playing its second match in as many days, having swept Martin Luther College 24 hours earlier.
"Our goal is to simply improve every day," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel. "Or as our team captain stated, 'You can't make a race horse out of a pig, but you can make a really fast pig.'"
Cooper Kline and
Jack Rivkin posted an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles, with
Yuv Kataria and
Baiyun Jing securing an 8-4 result at No. 2 doubles.
Aniketh Vipparla and
Jasper Yang finished out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at the third slot.
The Knights won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Kataria improved to 4-0 this season with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win atop the lineup. Jing is also 4-0 following his 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
Jasper Yang notched a 6-0, 6-1 result at the third slot, while Rivkin added a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Jerome Yang posted his second 6-0, 6-0 mastery of the season, prevailing at No. 5 singles, with Vipparla completing the sweep with his 6-1, 6-0 outcome at the sixth slot.
