Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights suffer rare regular-season loss, fall 1-0 at Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Carleton College women's soccer team sustained its first setback of the season, falling 2-1 under the lights at Simpson College.

This is unfamiliar territory for the Knights (2-1-0) as they absorbed their first regular-season setback in 366 days, the last defeat coming by a 3-1 tally at University of La Verne on Sept. 5, 2022, in the second of back-to-back hot weather games on the West Coast. Carleton had gone 13-1-3 between losses, with the lone blemish coming during postseason play.

Tonight, the weather was cooler with temperatures in the mid 70s, but the Storm (3-0-0) held a 20-13 advantage in shot attempts and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. The Simpson goal came off a set piece in the 72nd minute when Cassie Nash's delivery found the head of Julia Wagoner. That scoring play came on the third of three consecutive Storm corner kicks.

"What a great soccer game," sadi Carleton head coach Jessica Mueller. "Simpson has such a talented team. We battled from start to finish and created some great chances to score. They were a little bit better than we were today, especially in their attacking third. We loved the challenge."

Ezra Kucur made seven saves for Carleton, while Lani Meares stopped four shots in earning the shutout.

Cate Patterson, Hadley Twichell, Zaraya Jordan, and Ashlyn Haigh had the shots on goal for the Knights.
