Knights control the action in 2-0 win at St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team controlled play throughout the contest and secured a 2-0 victory at College of St. Scholastica.

The Knights (8-1-1, 4-0-1 MIAC) finished the contest with a whopping 30-1 advantage in shots and a 15-1 margin in attempts on goal. The Carleton defense did not surrender a shot to St. Scholastica (0-9-1, 0-3-1 MIAC) until the 84th minute.

The visitors registered 17 shots—with nine of those attempts on goal—during the first half, but this dominance did not come to fruition until there was just over three minutes remaining before intermission. Centerback Piper Dean converted a free kick more than 30 yards out, tucking a high-arcing shot into the top corner and out of the reach of the goalie. It was her third goal of the season, third-best on the squad.

The second half was similar to the first. The Knights continued to control the possession and pace of the game as they added 13 more shots in the stanza.

In the 67th minute, Carleton found its insurance goal. The play began off a short corner, where a cross by Kathryn Kresse found the head of Thea Traw, the Knights' other starting center back. Traw sent the ball back in front for Casey MacVeagh to re-direct into the back of the net. This was MacVeagh's second goal of the season and her 16th career goal.

The Knights were unable to cash in a few other golden scoring chances. Saheli Patel hit the crossbar in the 74th minute, while both Kresse and Naomi Straub took shots that eluded the goalie but were cleared off the line by Saints defenders

Carleton goalkeeper Avery Trapp made it back-to-back starts with a clean sheet and four games played with only one goal allowed overall.

With an 8-1-1 record, the Knights own the third-highest win total in program history through the first 10 games of a season (see chart below).
