Balanced attack leads Knights to 3-1 win at Crown

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Carleton College volleyball team got back in the win column with a 3-1 non-conference triumph at Crown College. Kerrigan Candra paced the Knights with season bests of 17 kills, 24 digs, and two solo blocks as the visitors prevailed by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, and 26-24.
 
Carleton (2-7) hit .202 as a team compared to .024 for Crown (2-8) as three players had double-digits in kills. Syliva Dixon joined Candra in notching a double-double, finishing the contest with 14 kills and 13 digs while hitting at a .367 clip. Catie Marvin contributed 11 kills with a team-best .381 attack percentage.

In the first set, the Knights trailed 13-15 before putting together a 9-2 run that included two kills by Dixon and three more by Candra. The latter gave Carleton the 25-20 decision with her seventh kill of the opening stanza.
 
Crown led 14-13 in the second set before Carleton went on an 8-3 spurt to grab a 21-17 lead en route to an eventual 25-20 result and a 2 games-to-none lead in the match. Five Knights had multiple kills during the period.
 
Late in the third set, the Knights led 24-23, but the Polars responded with three consecutive points on Carleton attack errors and prolonged the match.
 
Crown held a 22-20 advantage in the fourth set, forcing a Carleton timeout. Candra and Marvin both had a pair of kills as the Knights closed the set and the match with a mini 6-2 run.

Isabel Macia (25 assists, 13 digs, four aces) and Megan Smith (21 assists) split setter duties, while Katelyn Harder added 13 digs to the defensive effort.
 
Alyssa Heagney led Crown with 12 kills and added 14 digs.
