Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Knights add 9-0 win over regionally-ranked Coe

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team continued its strong start to the year with a 9-0 triumph over Coe College in a matchup of regionally-ranked squads. The Knights, ranked No. 10 in the Central Region, seized control early and improved to 13-2 on the season.

Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) proved worthy of their ranking as the No. 12 duo in the region after securing an 8-6 victory atop the doubles lineup. Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Zach Leslie (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) cruised to an 8-1 triumph at the second slot, while Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) and Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) prevailed at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3).

"Our chemistry in doubles has been as complementary as the base pairing in the double helix," noted Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel.

The Knights won all six singles contests, including an tough battle at the No. 2 slot where Kataria edged Graham Peterson by a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) tally.

"Yuv came back strong in the deciding third-set tiebreaker," Zweifel said. "One could almost feel the invisible hand of economist Adam Smith as beneficial outcomes arose from the accumulated actions of Yuv's individual shots, none of which on their own intended to bring about a specific outcome."

The other five singles matches went into the Knights' column in straight sets.

Rojanasoonthon controlled play en route to a 6-2, 6-2 victory atop the lineup, while Viswanathan notched his fifth consecutive triumph when he added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the third slot. Leslie scored a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 doubles to get his season record back above .500 at 6-5.

Cooper Kline (Fy./Los Angeles, Calif./The Buckley School) improved to a team-best 12-1 in dual matches after securing a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) triumph at the No. 5 spot. Will Stepanski (Sr./Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) moved to 7-0 on the season after picking up a 7-5, 6-2 result at the sixth slot.
