ROGERS, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team opened the spring term portion of its season with an 8-1 victory over Bethel University. Five players won in both singles and doubles for the Knights (11-2. 4-0 MIAC), who are ranked No. 10 in the Central Region.
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and
Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside), the No. 12 ranked tandem in the region, got Carleton started with am 8-2 win atop the doubles lineup.
Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and
Will Stepanski (Sr./Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) followed with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 3 slot, while
Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) and
Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) grinded out an 8-7 (7-5) victory at the middle spot.
In singles, Carleton won four matches in straight sets. Vipparla notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, with Stepanski improving to 5-0 this season after his 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 slot. Viswanathan added a 6-2 triumph at the fourth slot, while Rojanasoonthon, the No. 7-ranked singles player in the Central Region returned to the win column with his 6-3, 6-2 result at the top of the lineup.
Fuller notched Carleton's final team point with his 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 10-2 win at No. 2 singles. Bethel's team point came at No. 3 singles when the Knights pulled Kataria off the court to begin the drive back to campus with a storm in the area.
