Cold shooting haunts Knights in weather-delayed game at Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. – In a game that was delayed a day due to wintry weather in the Moorhead area, the Carleton College women's basketball team was unable to overcome a frigid start and dropped a 79-49 result at Concordia College-Moorhead.

Concordia (20-4, 17-4 MIAC) is already locked into the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAC Playoffs and has now won 12 of its last 13 games, while the Knights (7-17, 6-16 MIAC) dropped their third consecutive road game.

Carleton shot only 33.3 percent in the contest, including 25 percent during the first half. The Knights turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 19 points for Concordia. Meanwhile, the Cobbers shot 49.2 percent overall, including a 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) showing from 3-point range during the second half.

Carleton trailed only 13-8 after the first quarter of play, but the Cobbers kicked into high gear during the second period, including a 13-3 run to close the half and give Concordia a 35-19 lead at intermission.

The Cobbers never trailed and widened their lead during the second half. Even a seven-point fourth quarter from Carleton senior guard Aiana Whitfield did little to stem the tide.

Whitfield led the way for the visitors, turning in a 13-point effort with 3 assists. Jasmine Choi contributed her sixth career double-double and third over the last three weeks as she collected 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Symone Beld led four Cobbers in double figures, finishing with 18 points in 19 minutes. Makayla Anderson (14), Emily Beseman (13), and Carlee Sieben (11) also topped 10 points on the night, with Sieben also dishing out 7 assists.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton closes the 2022-23 season with a trip to the College of St. Scholastica. That game will tip off at 3:00 on Saturday, Feb. 18.
