ROCHESTER, Minn. --
Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) delivered the decisive team point as the Carleton College men's tennis team held on for a 5-4 triumph over University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a neutral site match.
Â
Carleton (6-1) jumped out to a big lead, thanks to a doubles sweep and a win at No. 1 singles by
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) by a 6-2, 6-2 margin.
Â
"Tate shot down the opposing team's phenomenal rally like a spy balloon over Alaska," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel.
Â
With Carleton seemingly in control, UWEC (3-1) made things very interesting by winning the next four singles matches to finish, including a pair of super tiebreakers.
Â
With the team score suddenly knotted at 4-4, the match would be decided at No. 2 singles where Fuller squared off against Demetri Bush. The Carleton sophomore delivered once again, winning a pair of tiebreakers: 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3).
Â
In doubles, Rojanasoonthon and Fuller prevailed 8-4 atop the lineup, while
Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) and
Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) won by the same score at No. 3 doubles.
Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and
Zach Leslie (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) added an 8-5 victory at the second slot.
