BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College swept the MIAC men's basketball athletes of the week awards as junior guard
Luke Harris was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week and junior forward
Spencer Goetz was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.
Harris averaged 23.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.0 steals in three games last week. He started this stretch with a career-best 31-point effort in a two-point loss to Saint John's on Nov. 21. His stat line from that game included 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and a blocked shot. Harris then began Carleton's Thanksgiving weekend trip to Southern California with a career-best 9 assists plus 10 points, 6 boards, and 2 steals in another close setback on Nov. 24, this one by a 67-64 tally to Pomona-Pitzer, which was receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com national top-25 poll. He closed Thanksgiving break with 29 points, 3 assists, and a steal in addition to a season-best 8 rebounds during the Knights' 83-75 triumph over No. 23 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Goetz averaged 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals, while also contributing 4.7 assists with 4.0 points on 60.0 percent shooting at the offensive end. Against Saint John's, he was the primary defender of Kooper Vaughn the leading scorer for Saint John's this season. Goetz limited the Johnnie guard, who had been averaging 19.7 points per game, to only 10 points while grabbing 4 rebounds of his own. Goetz then had 10 rebounds with 3 steals against Pomona-Pitzer before nearly recording a triple double versus C-M-S. In that final contest, he matched his career high with 10 points to go along with eight rebounds, two steals, and a career-best nine assists.
This is Goetz's first weekly conference award and the second in Harris' career, with the other coming almost exactly a year ago (Nov. 28, 2022).
