Knights open season with sweep over Crown

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Annelise Sokolow (Jr./Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) tallied a team-high 13 kills with a .571 attack percentage as the Carleton volleyball team opened the 2022 season with a sweep over Crown College on Friday evening at the Macalester Invitational.

Tied 8-8 in the first set, the Knights put together a 10-2 run to open up a 18-10 advantage. Carleton later finished the set on a 6-1 run to take the opening set 25-14.

The Knights kept the momentum rolling in the second set, starting the frame with a 9-2 lead. Carleton kept the edge through a majority of the frame and scored the final four points to take the second set by a score of 25-11.

The third set opened much the way the first did, back and forth out to a 5-5 tie. The Knights used another run to gain control of the third frame, this time a 10-1 run to open up a 15-6 advantage. Crown fought back, scoring five straight points to cut the lead to 19-14 midway through the frame, but the Knights answered with a 6-2 run to close the set and take the 3-0 win.

Carleton finished with 36 kills and a .270 attack percentage. Kerrigan Candra (So./Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) joined Sokolow in double figures with 10 kills. She also led the Knights with eight digs, nearly finishing with a double-double. Isabel Macia (Fy./Coral Gables, Fla./Divine Savior Academy) controlled the tempo and registered 30 assists in her collegiate debut.
