NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team began the 2022-23 campaign with a convincing 8-1 triumph over Luther College.
Lingyu Wei (Sr./Shanghai, China/Shanghai Weiyu High School) was one of four Knights to prevail in both singles and doubles.
In doubles,
Mariam Nechiporuk (So./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and
Amelia Asfaw (So./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Amanda Black (So./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and
Ingrid Smith (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) registered an 8-1 triumph at the second slot, while Wei and
Alise Pedersen (Sr./San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) notched an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights (1-0) won five of the six singles matches. Asfaw and Nechiporuk came out on top at the top two spots, the former winning 6-1, 6-1 and the latter 6-4, 6-0.
Smith notched a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 3 singles, while
Zoe Rose (So./Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) added a convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the fifth slot.
Wei took a wild thriller at No. 6 singles, winning by a 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (6-8), 10-2.
