MAHWAH, N.J. –
Blake Jones (So./Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) scored once in each half as the Carleton College men's soccer team began the 2022 campaign with a 2-0 road win at Ramapo College.
This was Jones' first career multi-goal game, and the first time a Knight found the back of the net at least twice since
Charlie Hall '22 notched a hattrick at College of St. Scholastica on Oct. 23, 2021.
In the 36th minute, Jones flicked a 50-50 ball over to
Dylan Fox-Arnold (So./Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School), who immediately chipped the ball over the top of the backline back to Jones who scored on a half volley from the penalty spot.
The 60th minute saw the Knights tack on an insurance goal.
Jon Fernandes (Jr./Woodbury, Conn./Canterbury School) carried the ball up the left side of the field. His initial attack was thwarted by the defense, so Fernandes looked for another option. He found to
Briggs Priem (Fy./Milwaukie, Ore./Rex Putnam) racing up the middle of the field. Priem ran onto the ball and passed to Jones, who was left unmarked in the middle of the defense. The sophomore turned and fired into the open left side of the net.
Alexei Thomas (Sr./London, United Kingdom/Merchant Taylors School) registered seven saves, the second-highest total of his career, in notching his sixth career shutout.
