Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Knights sweep St. Olaf to stay undefeated in MIAC play

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over St. Olaf College on Thursday at the Pat Lamb Tennis Courts. This was the Knights' eighth consecutive victory over their cross-town rivals, improving Carleton's record versus the Oles to 23-2 over the last 20 years.

The Knights (11-4 overall) improved to 5-0 in MIAC play this season.

At No. 1 doubles, Tarm Rojanasoonthon (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and Tate Fuller (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) got back in the win column with an 8-5 triumph atop the lineup.

William Walsh (Sr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) and Aswath Viswanathan (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) prevailed at No. 2 doubles by the same score, moving the duo's record to 6-1 this season.

It does not seem to matter whom Bence Kisgeczi (Sr./Budapest, Hungary/Szent István) plays alongside in doubles as the senior improved to 6-0 this season. This time he teamed with Yuv Kataria (So./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep), his fifth different doubles partner of 2022, on an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

Carleton won all six singles matches in straight sets as the Knights surrendered two games or less in each of the top five matches.

Rojanasoonthon, Kataria, Xander Roti (Sr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy), Fuller, and Noah Mueller (Jr./Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai) notched victories at spots 1-5, respectively. Sho Tanaka (Fy./Torrance, Calif./North) capped off the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton heads to No. 17-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College for a 3:00 p.m. match on Saturday, April 23. The Gusties and Knights are the only teams still undefeated in MIAC play this year, and the programs have finished 1-2 in the MIAC for each of the last 18 completed (does not 2020 due to COVID shutdown) seasons.
