LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead as the Knights dropped only 10 games total throughout the nine matches.
Ingrid Smith (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) led the way with victories in both singles and doubles.
Carleton (6-0, 2-0 MIAC) quickly took care of business during doubles, registering 8-1 victories by Smith and
Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) atop the lineup as well as
Kathryn Burton (So./Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and
Alisa Makatsaria (Jr./New York, N.Y./Singapore American School) at the third slot. In between,
Amanda Black (Fy./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and
Taylor Thulson (Sr./Louisville, Colo./Niwot) won their second straight match, this one by an 8-2 tally.
Upon moving to singles, the Knights registered six straight-set triumphs, yielding only six total games. Smith,
Amelia Asfaw (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep),
Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), and
Sydney Bell (Jr./Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) each posted a shutout, while
Mary Frances Hose (So./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and
Piper Brown (Fy./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud) prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at the fifth slot.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will take a break from competition to focus on winter term final exams. The team is slated to head to Panama for Spring Break from March 20-26.
