NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Kent Hanson (Sr./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) poured in a season-high 22 points and
Alex Battist (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) added 20 points, but it was not enough for the Knights as the Carleton College men's basketball team dropped a 90-74 result to visiting Bethel University. The Royals shot 50-percent (11-of-22) from three-point range compared to a 5-for-15 showing (33 percent) for the Knights.
Bethel (4-2, 2-1 MIAC) never trailed and closed the first half with back-to-back 3-pointers by Hudson Urbanus and Isaiah Carver-Bagley to stake the visitors to a 45-37 advantage at intermission. Carleton (1-3, 0-3 MIAC) got no closer than eight points in the second half.
Carleton shot 58 percent overall, compared to 57 percent for Bethel as both sides finished with 46 points in the paint. The difference was the Royals' long-range shooting.
First-years
Jeremy Beckler (Lino Lakes, Minn./White Bear Lake) and
Isaac Tessier (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) also finished in double figures for Carleton, totaling 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Bethel senior Granger Kingland scored all 19 of his team-high 19 points in the second half to help the visitors maintain their advantage. Jamal Davis added 17 points, and Urbanus added 14 points for the Royals.
