MOORHEAD, Minn. --
Jeremy Beckler (Fy./Lino Lakes, Minn./White Bear Lake),
Alex Battist (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), and

"It was a very determined Carleton team on the floor tonight," said Carleton head coach
Guy Kalland. "We were as solid defensively tonight as we've been all season, and we had a number of quality possessions on offense as well. It was nice way to wrap up the first quarter of our MIAC schedule before we head into three non-conference games next week."
Â
After a back-and-forth opening to the game that featured four ties and six lead changes, Concordia (2-6, 0-4 MIAC) opened up its largest advantage of the contest at 25-20 with 8:03 remaining in the first half. Battist answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to spark an 11-0 run that gave the Knights (2-4, 1-4 MIAC) the lead for good.
Â
Carleton went 6-of-11 (55 percent) from downtown in the first half and carried a 37-32 margin into intermission. The Knights cooled down from long range after halftime, going 1-for-11 over the final 20 minutes, but it did not matter as the visitors cashed in 17-of-21 field-goal attempts (81 percent) inside the arc over the same span and shot 60 percent overall in the second half.
Â
The Knights used a 22-2 run that spanned nearly 10 minutes of game action to put the game out of reach. Concordia used a fastbreak bucket by Tommy Schyma to pull within 48-40 with 14:40 still to play, but Carleton forced the Cobbers into a 1-for-11 dry spell with five turnovers.
Â
Concordia trailed by 28 points before it scored again with 4:40 still to play.
Â
For Beckler, this was his second consecutive 20-point performance and the third of his rookie campaign. He finished the game 10-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
Â
Battist was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, part of his 9-for-14 shooting night. In addition to notching his third 20-point game of his season and career, Battist added six rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals.
Â
Hanson has now eclipsed the 20-point mark 23 times in his career. He now has 1,271 career points, moving him past Tommy Drake '08 and into 11th place on Carleton's all-time scoring list.
Â
Carleton point guard
Henry Bensen (Sr./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) was the leading rebounder in the contest as he equaled his career best with nine boards.
Â
Two Cobbers finished in double figures. Schyma paced the hosts with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jackson Jangula chipped in 10 points.
Â
The home team had won 14 of the previous 17 meetings between these two programs.
Â
UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS: Carleton's road trip continues with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Bethany Lutheran College on Monday, Dec. 16. The Knights will then head to Orlando, Fla. for games against Hope College and Finlandia University on Dec. 18-19.
