ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In the final match before the start of the MIAC Playoffs, the Carleton College women's soccer fell at the College of Saint Benedict, 2-0.
Due to an earlier result from elsewhere across the conference, the matchup between the Knights (9-4-3, 6-3-2 MIAC) and the Bennies (10-5-2, 7-3-1 MIAC) determined which of the two teams would be the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament with the other relegated to the No. 5 seed. With the victory St. Ben's earned the higher seed and the opportunity to host Carleton again in the first round of the playoffs.
Megan Thompson scored both goals for the Bennies. In the 47th minute, she was not called for being offsides and instead ran free for a breakaway. Carleton keeper
Anna Roethler (Jr./St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) came off her line and knocked the ball away from Thompson before she could take a shot, but the MIAC's leading scorer was first to the loose ball and scored her 16th goal of the season. In the 78th minute, Thompson raced up field after a through ball and converted her 1-v-1 opportunity for an insurance tally.
UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS: Carleton will look to exact revenge on the Bennies when the teams meet again at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
